New Tracks Weekend

Did nobody take the Winter holidays off? So many new releases! Well, so much the better for us (and for you, the listener). New music from Brazil, from upstart shoegazers Terraplana (pictured above), whose exílio EP is rich and full of youthful charm. Of course we’ve got the new single from Linda Guilala, which we had the honor of premiering two days ago. Of course today sees the release of the new album from Jaguwar, which diverges from previous sonic onslaught, but maintains the charm and creativity of the band. We’ve got the new Ride, as well as Relay Tapes, Honeyhead, Ceremony, Jay Som, Medejin, Plant Cell, Venus in Fuzz, Vyva Melinkolya, and the “grungemo” sonic stomp of Yeah, Cool. And, yes, we just made that term up. Maybe it appears somewhere in the interwebz, but, even so, we’re calling grungemo ours.

And that only adds to last weekend’s new sound, including The Malady of Sevendials, Blushing, Swirlpool, Bloom Waves, dethgaze, Fourth Way, Gliss, The Love Agenda, Knifeplay, Creature in the Spiral, Magic Love, Prince Bunny, Float Down the Liffey, Shoe Shine Six, Twin Oaks, Death Valley Rally, The Voices, Magnet School, Dead Vibrations, Helicon, Black Heart Death Cult and so much more.

And if that’s somehow not enough, you can always go back and listen to our Top Shoegaze and Dream Pop Tracks of 2017. The show itself is four plus hours of sonic delights, thanks to listener votes throughout the year via the DKFM app. If you missed it, well, it’s the best of what we do.

New Tracks Weekend kicks off 8 pm Eastern, 5 pm Pacific, and continuing through Sunday at midnight Eastern, 9 Pacific. It’s the first weekend we’ll spin some of these tracks, and may be the last weekend for some others. Remember, you can listen listen via the station playlist page at DKFM,  on Shoutcast, and on TuneIn Radio for iPhone/Android/Windows. Plus we have our branded apps for Apple’s iOSAndroid and Blackberry: listeners can vote thumbs-up/thumbs-down on all the new tracks, helping us determine what graduates to permanent rotation. Your voice counts! Or load up the “Internet Radio” tab of your iTunes desktop client, and you’ll find DKFM Shoegaze Radio under ‘Alternative’. You can even keep up with the new tracks and artists you may have missed, as we’re live-tweeting every track on our sub-Twitter DKFMTracks account. Now you’ll know what you heard, or catch up on what you missed. Keep up with our new Facebook group for real-time discussions of what you’ve heard, and sound off!

And, as always, thanks for listening, and thank you for your support!

Didn’t get the gear you wanted at Christmas? We’ve got it!
The Malady of Sevendials

An embarrassment of riches. This week’s haul of new musical treasures is pretty big, even by our standards. This weekend we feature two new singles from The Malady of Sevendials, who cut a huge figure at last year’s Seagaze Festival (pictured above, image copyright Chris Schanz Photography). We’ll see if these impressive musicians don’t earn a place in your heart as well. But we’ve got so much more. New singles from Blushing, Swirlpool, Bloom Waves, dethgaze, Fourth Way, Gliss, The Love Agenda, Knifeplay, Creature in the Spiral, Magic Love, and Prince Bunny kick off the festivities. Plus we dive a little deeper into the back catalog of Prince Bunny, so’s we can feel properly caught up. New EPs from Float Down the Liffey, Shoe Shine Six, Twin Oaks (familiar to our listeners, but now with a stripped-down performance that may take your breath away), and the new Part Time Punks Session from Death Valley Rally support the proceedings. We’ll go deep into the new album from The Voices, as Dark Waters is a release that so many fans have waited years for, and it doesn’t disappoint. Finally, we dig deep into the back catalogue of Magnet School, and we take a peek at the upcoming Fuzz Club Records’ critically beloved Reverb Conspiracy series, rolling out Volume 5 later this month, and including such luminaries as Dead Vibrations, Helicon, and Black Heart Death Cult. We’re locked and loaded.

And that was a long-arse paragraph. But there’s so much to cover. And that’s only adding to last weekend’s new sounds, including COSme, Geowulf, Lillet Blanc, Softspot, The Churchill Garden, Neaux, Candy, Mary’s Restless Dream, and Caramel Snow. We’ll launch the new year right.

Listener poll complete, albums of the year lists final, first-ever Christmas show done, normal New Tracks Weekend programming can resume. And there’s much new (and one old discovery) to explore. The new album from Heligioland is a journey through evocative sonic atmospheres. The newly-unearthed Sway LP, We Have No Influential Friends is a treasured keepsake for fans of the sound. That may sound like hyperbole (and we’re experts in hyperbole), but nobody saw this release coming, and it’s a reminder of how brilliant this imprint has been over the years. The just-unleashed Power Pyramid album Nova will have you digging in deep. Russia’s Your Friends Polymers return with a new EP to amaze and brighten your December. Brand new music from The Daysleepers, Key Out, Lilac, Mind Monogram, Seafang, SPC ECO, Useless Cities, and Wintermilk soar. Add to that an album we missed in 2015, but are rectifying that mistake now: Stella’s Skin and Seeds LP has a ton to recommend it. Now only left to wonder if there’s a follow-up coming, because it’s obvious these Evansville folks know their way around a tune or five.

That’s in addition to last week’s fresh raft of tunes, including Never Come Downs, Blacanova, Blush, Sinking, Bolywool, Castlebeat, Portrayal, Fever Blush, The Autumn Sighs, Dopedrone, Terry vs. Tori, Parsy, Cruel Summer, and much more. We’re packed, as usual.

New Tracks Weekend presents tunes so fresh, you can hardly call them leftovers. We’re deep into the new LP from Mexico’s Car Crash Sisters, and the new Static Waves 6 compilation via Saint Marie Records. That’d fill a weekend already, but we’re far from done. New music from Beatastic, Billow, The Citradels, Dopedrone, Ethica, frankenchrist, Greenhouse, Jed Jarman, Maidenhair, Quali, Ruby Haunt, The Foreign Resort, UK Cinema, Vacations, Vlimmer, and 雨の中の馬. We’re well packed.

Not to forget last weekend’s new additions, including Gingerlys, Day Wave (featuring Hazel English), Pinkshinyultrablast, CAUCUS, Fauvely, No Vacation, Gleemer, Jessica 93, Loveblind, Tea Leigh & Luke Reed, The Veldt, On The Wane, Inspiraling, Dana, The Dayoffs, and choice cuts from two worthy compilations: TBTCI’s Wire Revisited comp, and Patetico Recordings’ Rock Back: Stronger Than the Storm compilation, with all proceeds benefitting victims of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. We truly can’t fit it all in.

Well of course we’re late. What with cross-country travel, several epic shows, and yesterday’s rollout of our new billboard (inorite?), we’re getting things done. Just a tad slower than usual. We’re still behind on submissions and some new music, but catching up. This weekend, we celebrate the release of the new album from Gingerlys, which has layers of charm and sparkle. We’re pushing the new Day Wave cover of Interpol, featuring Hazel English, which is everything you could hope for. New music from Pinkshinyultrablast, CAUCUS, Fauvely, No Vacation, Gleemer, Jessica 93, Loveblind, Tea Leigh & Luke Reed, The Veldt, On The Wane, Inspiraling, Dana, The Dayoffs, and choice cuts from two worthy compilations: TBTCI’s Wire Revisited comp, and Patetico Recordings’ Rock Back: Stronger Than the Storm compilation, with all proceeds benefitting victims of Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. We’ve even got a Whimsical live cut from Kalamashoegazer that might even be more compelling than the studio version! And that’s just the new adds we can remember…

Not to neglect last weekend’s freshness, including Kindling, Cave Shine, Glaare, Heaters, Demur, Wind Along The Coast, Blush, Processions, Miners, Vansire, Curelight Wounds, Car Crash Sisters, Ghost Noise, Broken Little Sister, Cherry Coloured, Fragile Animals, Dim, Black Books, Silver Liz, Autumn (US) and so much more. Truly more songs than time.

The Calm After the Storm…

Yes, we spun a new configuration of New Tracks Weekend last weekend, but given all the events of last weekend (Kalamashoegazer, Panda Riot/Brief Candles/Lightfoils, Slowdive), we didn’t properly promote the new material. Yes, you are all due a travelogue on last week’s epic midwestern swing by DKFM staff, but we’re holding off until the edited video evidence of our journey comes in. We say all that to say this: fresh tracks last weekend, fresher tracks this weekend. Here’s our star roster: Kindling, Cave Shine, Glaare, Heaters, Demur, Wind Along The Coast, Blush, Processions, Miners (formerly of Pala, now lost in some geography-deficient but reverb-laden locale), Vansire, Curelight Wounds (sneak preview, everyone!), Car Crash Sisters, Ghost Noise, Broken Little Sister, Cherry Coloured, Fragile Animals, Dim, Black Books, Silver Liz, Autumn (US) and a great deal more we’ve likely just forgotten to include. Woe is us, living on the edge like that.

Not to ignore the previous weekend’s new music, including Aerofall, Sadfields, The Medicine, Small Planets, The Luxembourg Signal, Slow Glows, My Proper Skin, mi andromeda, Winter, Pony Fringe, GYHT, Bur, Breaking Forms, and The Legendary House Cats. All weekend, packed in.
