New Tracks Weekend

Pretend you’re us. You start out thinking you’ve got not much to add to the New Tracks Weekend rotation. Then, 24 hours before air, seems like your wheelbarrow is overloaded with new additions. And, even as you sideload and cut promo for all the new music, you realize you’ve lost another three new releases you’d intended to shine a spotlight on. This is us. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but usually varying degrees of this. So, subject to change, here’s the joy we’re boosting this weekend (no particular order): Telyscopes, Heaters, SHINY TIMES, Backwarmer, Calling All Astronauts, Softsurf, Retrieval, Pabst, Autisti, Bare Pale, Foliage, Saccades, Honeyrude, Cigarettes After Sex, Beliefs, Sylvie, A Thousand Hours, Seven Tin Stars, Greg-Nunn, and choice cuts from the Dut Dut Dut Dut compilation we premiered last night. V v packed. Packed, I tell you.

That only adds to last weekend’s fresh mayhem stew, including Cat in the Case, Houseplants, Dakota, Speedy Ortiz, Shady Bug, The Dreamtoday, Morning TV, See Through Dresses, plant cell, Mermaidens, Spotlights, Laedj, Juvenile Juvenile, Dazy Crown, Foliage, Strange Lights, Autumn’s Grey Solace and more. We mean it when we say: there’s more new music worth hearing than hours in the day to play it.

New Tracks Weekend kicks off 8 pm Eastern, 5 pm Pacific, and continuing through Sunday at midnight Eastern, 9 Pacific. It’s the first weekend we’ll spin some of these tracks, and may be the last weekend for some others. Remember, you can listen listen via the station page at DKFM,  on Shoutcast, and on TuneIn Radio for iPhone/Android/Windows. Plus we have our branded apps for Apple’s iOSAndroid and Blackberry: listeners can vote thumbs-up/thumbs-down on all the new tracks, helping us determine what graduates to permanent rotation. Your voice counts! Or load up the “Internet Radio” tab of your iTunes desktop client, and you’ll find DKFM Shoegaze Radio under ‘Alternative’. You can even keep up with the new tracks and artists you may have missed, as we’re live-tweeting every track on our sub-Twitter DKFMTracks account. Now you’ll know what you heard, or catch up on what you missed. Keep up with our new Facebook group for real-time discussions of what you’ve heard, and sound off!

And, as always, thanks for listening, and thank you for your support!

All the new music, all of the time. Shiny new music from Taiwan’s Cat in the Case (pictured, above), both fuzzy and jangly. The new release from Houseplants generating buzz in the studio. The new double-single from Dakota is a joy to behold. TBTCI’s Stereolab tribute album is full of gems. New Speedy Ortiz, Shady Bug, The Dreamtoday, Morning TV (welcome back!), See Through Dresses, plant cell, Mermaidens, Spotlights, Laedj, Juvenile Juvenile, Dazy Crown, Foliage, Strange Lights and more. Plus, we go long with the new LP from Autumn’s Grey Solace, channelling their inner Victorialand. And finally, we get to to tease out new tracks from the forthcoming album from A Thousand Hours, due next week. If you thought you knew what this team was capable of before, Red & Co. will exceed your expectations, again.

Let’s not forget last weekend’s additions, including Brilliant Beast, Star Tropics, Grabbel and the Final Cut, Agent Blå, New Youth, Overlake, Saccades, We, the Pigs, Beach Fossils, Everso, Caterwall, Guest Directors, The Daysleepers and so much more. All of the new, now.

We control the weekend. We expedite the awesome. We polish the newness. As anticipated, we’re all over the new release from Brilliant Beast, one of our most anticipated of the year. And, as we also anticipated, they do not disappoint. Did we say anticipated enough? But we also go long with another special release: Star Tropics’ Lost World just dropped, and it’s likely to burn up iPods all summer. This is the sound of summer, and we can’t recommend it enough. But we’re also bumping the long-form release of Grabbel and the Final Cut, now out in its entirety as an LP. We’re also pushing Agent Blå, New Youth, Overlake, Saccades, We, the Pigs, Beach Fossils, Everso, Caterwall (new lineup, modified sound), Guest Directors and so much more. And of course we’re boosting the first new music from The Daysleepers in ages. Both a welcome return to form, and a graduation to the next level, “Creation” is a fuzzy, watery gem. Again, more music than hours in the weekend. We’ll keep you company, day and night.

But we’ve not forgotten last weekend’s fresh freshness, including DEAFCULT, Blankenberge (interview coming soooooon), Shrike, Parábolas del Bosque, The Bilinda Butchers, Black Sea. The Starlight Run. Foxxxy Mulder. Jessica93. uvii (formerly Ultraviolet). Battery Point. Paper Daggers. Houseplants. Ancient Tapes. Marker. All the new. Plus we’re tossing in a rarity: first wave ‘gazers Moving Holiday, with a DKFM remaster of one of their classic tracks. Because we literally couldn’t hold off till the next Classics and Rarities show.

When you have at least three legitimate headliners to play out your weekend, which do you choose for a graphic? Well, there’s the huge compilation dedicated to the memory and musical love of scene stalwart Chris Tressler, bringing together bands from around the globe to celebrate the spirit of a genuine fan and supporter of the scene. For The Love of Chris Tressler brings together 51 unique artists, organized and orchestrated by Krissy VanderWoude and Jonathan Sellers, and serves as a testament to a life well loved. That would be headliner enough any other weekend. But… it’s also (finally) the release date of the genre-dominating DEAFCULT, an LP we’d looked forward to since the release of their first EP. It’s really no wonder everyone’s been buzzing about these Aussies since 2015. This album proves all the early adopters right. And yet… our third choice for headliners, Blankenberge (pictured above). Brilliant, bendy, icy, refreshing, this band from Saint Petersburg, Russia have been teasing us with crumbs of brilliance, finally reaching full flower on this, their first full album. One of their Bandcamp tags reads “dronegaze”, but don’t be fooled. There are songs here, and they are captivating. Great listening for any season. Three headliners, each with full albums.

But if we wanted to drill further down, it’d be easy to promo some additional gems: Tokyo’s Shrike. Two songs, pure gold, arrives as if from nowhere. Parábolas del Bosque. We catch up with these Mexican sadgazers, and immediately fall under their spell. New (or at least ‘refreshed’) music from The Bilinda Butchers, well worth your mindshare. Black Sea. The Starlight Run. Foxxxy Mulder. Jessica93. uvii (formerly Ultraviolet). Battery Point. Paper Daggers. Houseplants. Ancient Tapes. Marker. SO MUCH NEW MUSIC.

And that’s on top of last weekend’s new adds, including Keep, Major Leagues, Cruel Summer, Turnover, Cloakroom, Winter, Deep Blue, Vertebrae, Hush Pup, Processions, lousy hex, Rocketship, Lacing, Sobs, Swap Babies, The Telewire, and Leisure Walks.

109 degrees outside right now. Only solution: bring hot new music to match. New albums from Keep, Major Leagues and Cruel Summer (pictured above, reacting to their upcoming tour with Swirlies), new singles from Turnover, Cloakroom, Winter (channeling her inner J Mascis vocal lines… didn’t see that coming), Mood Dye, Slowly, Jellyskin (not yet released… this is a teaser for more), Deep Blue, Vertebrae, Hush Pup, Processions, lousy hex, Rocketship, Lacing and more. Plus, we’ve finally got hands on EP releases from Sobs, Swap Babies, The Telewire, and Leisure Walks. Overbooked for the weekend, naturally.

That’s only added to last weekend’s freshness, including Ride, Deafcult, Wozniak, Hatchie, Youth Pool, Pink Frost, Pale Spectres, FOAMMM, Chain of Flowers, Bleach Bath, A Shoreline Dream, The Black Watch, Snowball ii, The Raft, Drift, Radiation Flowers, Rocket Ship TV, Nevermind Me, Amber Arcades, Dead Vibrations, M!R!M, Lake Wash, Glass, Vinyl Williams, Seahorse, Alvvays, Herlights, Alarm Drum, and so terribly much more than will fit into the weekend.

If you’ve spent the last six months sleeping under a rock, there’s a new album from Ride out today. In fact, their first new LP in 21 years. If you don’t think that’s a thing, you may be tuned into the wrong radio station, my friends. Much like when Slowdive released a new album this year, a number of other new releases got overlooked (well, everywhere but here). But, you know us. Our job is to keep you up on all of it. New music from Deafcult, Wozniak, Hatchie, Youth Pool, Rocketship, Pink Frost, Pale Spectres, FOAMMM, Chain of Flowers, Bleach Bath, A Shoreline Dream, The Black Watch, Snowball ii, The Raft, Drift, Radiation Flowers, Rocket Ship TV, Nevermind Me, Amber Arcades, Dead Vibrations, M!R!M, Lake Wash, Glass, Vinyl Williams, Seahorse, Alvvays, Herlights, Alarm Drum… everything that fits, and some wot don’t.

Not to neglect last weekend’s fresh additions, including the sparkly new album from Panda Riot, plus Bellavista, Tearjerker, Fawns of Love, Softer Still, Colour of Spring, Doorbells, Beachglass, Sonic Jesus, Secret Meadow, Palm Haze, Daoda, Giant Surprise. We’ll put it all through the compactor, see just how much we can fit in.

Everything arrives at the same time. We’re doing our part in keeping it all together, and giving it all due respect and love. We start with the ridiculously long-awaited full-length from Bellavista. Rex & Co. broke away from Tamaryn to try to polish and perfect this presentation, and the hard work has paid off. But that competes with another LP we’ve been waiting on, Panda Riot’s Infinity Maps. Finally. See (or at least hear) what we’ve been buzzing about for months now. But we’ve also been spooling out world premiere tracks from Renato Malizia’s TBTCI Records compilation, also released today. While Renato has been at the forefront of promoting this sound globally, this is a special project, born of love, laser-focused on the best music Brazil has to offer the shoegaze & dreampop scenes. From station stalwarts like Loomer and Justine Never Knew The Rules, to “new to us” bright surprises like The Us and I Kill Kane, this compilation is a labor of love from all involved, and the quality shines through. Grab your own copy of Come On Feel The Noise: BraZil Class of ’17 at TBTCI’s Bandcamp site.

That’s a long-arse first paragraph, and we’ve only covered the albums! We’ve got new tracks in from Tearjerker, Fawns of Love, Softer Still, Colour of Spring, Doorbells, Beachglass, Sonic Jesus, Secret Meadow, Palm Haze, M!R!M!, Daoda, Giant Surprise, and much more. So, so much new.

Seven Tin Stars

New, fresh, sometimes obscure, often beloved. We’ve got the weekend fresh-wrapped for you! The long-awaited new single from Seven Tin Stars (pictured above) has the churn you’ve come to love. New music from Etti-Etta, Distant Creatures (we’ll go long with the new LP), Colour of Spring, Swimming Tapes, Voluptuous Panic, Mundy’s Bay, Brilliant Beast (preorders up now via Bandcamp), the bendy new single from Magic Shoppe, plus new music from Glare and Glaze (wholly unrelated), Movie Brain, and a key track we’d missed from station favorites Power Pyramid. Got hands on the new long-player from Stellarscope, will push some prime cuts. Finally, we’re spinning over the new track from Melbourne’s Leisure Walks. Because, there’s something in the water there, and it seems to make everything sparkle.

Not to forget last weekend’s fresh tracks, including Panda Riot, My Favorite Things, Ciel, Processions, Foliage, 93millionmilesfromthesun, Supercandy, Volunteer Cheerleader, Swimming Tapes, A Thousand Hours, Jet Trash, plus the Bethany Curve reissue, and we get hazy with Weed.

Cup runneth over. New Tracks Weekend this weekend features the newest and brightest stars in the firmament. Kicking off with a few choice cuts from the forthcoming Panda Riot LP, due in June. Plus we’ve got the latest pre-release tracks from My Favorite Things, Ciel, Processions, Foliage and more, before you’ll hear them anywhere else! And we’ll shovel in the new releases from 93millionmilesfromthesun, Colour of Spring, Supercandy, Volunteer Cheerleader, Swimming Tapes, A Thousand Hours, Jet Trash, plus the Bethany Curve reissue, and the new and (allegedly) final release from Vancouver’s grunge kingpins, Weed. Packed out!

But we don’t stop there. We’re still deep into the new Pia Fraus, Tennis System, Oeil, Cigarettes After Sex, Schonwald, Slow Crush, Terry vs. Tori, Rat Columns, Girlpool, Eternal Something, Telyscopes, Aurora L’Orealis, IS BLISS, and so much more. No incentive to do anything this weekend other than lay about listening to the radio, amirite?

There is no letup. Impressive new music is coming fast and furious. As the weather turns warm, so do the tones. The new Pia Fraus single/EP is near release via Seksound label, with contributions from scene luminaries like Airiel and Mahogany, and it’s worth the wait. Following two electric performances on American network television, Tennis System dropped their new single early this morning, and it has all the volcanic energy you’ve come to expect from Matty & Co. We’ve got long-awaited new music from Oeil, Cigarettes After Sex, Schonwald, Slow Crush, Terry vs. Tori, Rat Columns, Girlpool, Eternal Something, Telyscopes, Aurora L’Orealis, IS BLISS, and so much more. As usual, more music than weekend!

Not to overlook last weekend’s gems, including Hazel English, Hoops, Say Sue Me, No Vacation, Season of Strangers, Watterson, Antipole, Tinfoil and Tape, The Age of Colored Lizards… we’re fully booked!
