This albums chart is specific: rated only by number of total spins from an album on our air.

It’s an imperfect methodology, punishing those releases in the latter half of the year, but… it’s also the easiest to prove, with a spin count to back it up. So, it’s raw data that can be trusted, even if it does favor early-year releases. The only exception to the accuracy of this list is Resplandor, explained below. Easily a top 20 contender in this or any year, but accounting hit a snag on this release due to distribution of early (outstanding) singles prior to 2022. Having said that, let’s roll.

Several anomalies in “rotation ranking list” seen here.

1. Carryover from late 2021 into 2022: We.the Pigs S/T, Mondaze – Late Bloom would both crack Top Ten, while Fleeting Joys – All Lost Eyes and Glitter, and Ovlov – Buds would crack Top 15. This speaks to late release date of prior year, as the hits just kept on coming from 2021 into 2022’s airspace.

2 Additionally, several EPs contended for airplay crown in the Top 40 for total spins on our air, including worse. – The Ceilings Are Floors Too, Horse Show – Falsterbo EP, and NewDad Banshee (EP), but we tried (and failed) to keep all EPs out.

3. *Mo Dotti . It’s an EP, and shouldn’t be here by all rights. Except for the fact that fewer individual tracks put together generated more spins on our air than some albums. It really happened. So, breaking our own rule, we’ve charted an EP as an album, partly out of celebration, partly fatigue. So mote it be. *Gleemer also got album treatment, against our rules.

4. An artist that should rightly be reflected in Top Ten is Resplandor. The album Tristeza is composed of brilliant earlier singles and new imaginings of their classic tracks, and as such has been making a continuous splash over a longer period than is reflected in 2022 alone. By all rights that landmark LP should be reflected here, at least via its component parts.

5. *Lauds’ Imitation Life on Fort Lowell Records we got the advance on, releasing this month, and apparently we’ve been spinning the life out of it. Well deserved love. We certainly hope it generates buzz and sales for this talented bunch and the label that backed ’em.
