Video Premiere: Crystal Canyon – “Luminous”
Written by Greg Wilson on April 30, 2021
If you have any familiarity with the station, you know we’re pretty keen on Crystal Canyon. With the new album, yours with affection and sorrow, already pegged to compete with the top ten albums of 2021 by year’s end, this band of sonic veterans is already well regarded in these studios.
What makes the sound so special? It’s not terribly complex, it doesn’t bend or break genre rules, or take the sound in an uncharted direction. Crystal Canyon writes songs, first and foremost, then wraps them in reverb and light distortion like a warm blanket. Sprinkle tender choral arrangements on top, and you have a pretty perfect presentation, accessible to newcomers and scene stalwarts alike, without either feeling shortchanged. There’s a beating heart to the Crystal Canyon sound that makes the otherwise distant sound ultimately human and engaging. In a nutshell, it’s the sound of a band who knows the contours of their sound, confident in their chops, who drive the individual songs home.
We’re proud to stand behind Crystal Canyon, to champion the work. And we couldn’t be more thrilled to present the brand new video for “Luminous”. Compiled and directed by Serge Vladimiroff, it’s all bursts of prismatic color, interspersed with implied tears. We can’t explain it, you just have to experience it for yourself.
