Wednesday – “One More Last One”

We’ve been anticipating the single drops for the upcoming Wednesday album, drop by drop. This Asheville, North Carolina quintet are stumbling towards excellence with every step forward. By now you may have heard “Handsome Man”, one of the singles in hot rotation on our air. But all is tease, all is temptation, as there’s so many more facets to this band, revealing on the Twin Plagues LP release this 13 August on Orindal Records.

Today’s treat unlocked, single and video for “One More Last One”. Whether you’re watching the antics, or merely listening as the song plays in the background, this is a feeling you simply know. There’s a Drop Nineteens feel to video and audio: comfort in the sound, comfortable within themselves, and a longing for emotional release. By the chord change at 1:07, they’ve got you. The feel gets real, the nostalgia kicks in hard, and the surroundings are familiar. It’s not homage to the classic sound, but there’s enough respect and reverence here, you’d be forgiven for noting genre touchstones throughout. That they’ve appreciated and borrowed from only the best the genre has to offer, that’s down to a band fully in charge of their sound.

August 13 still a month away, but as these singles-as-breadcrumbs tease out, there’s something languidly magical about Wednesday. Ignore at your peril.
