Paul Lopez shows
The Shoegaze Collective was originally created by Paul Lopez as a haven and a destination for shoegaze and dream pop lovers to discover new bands, share news, debate favorites and promote a genre that very few people knew much about.
It began as a Myspace page in 2007, which at its peak had 9,000 followers. In late 2008, Lopez moved the TSC to Facebook where it currently resides with more than 2,700 Facebook followers and more than 9,100 Twitter fans. And these numbers continue to grow every week.
As a natural progression of the TSC, Lopez was the host of a one-hour radio show in 2016 for an online Internet radio station based in France. Parting ways after less than a year due to musical differences, Lopez soon after hooked up with station manager Greg Wilson who invited him to be a part of DKFM. His first show aired in its new home Nov. 8, 2016.
What Lopez brings to his show is knowledge gained from a lifelong love of music in many genres and from many time periods. The fact that he was a drummer in a speed metal/thrash band as well as shoegaze bands starting in his 20s is proof that he has wide, varying tastes and an open mind when it comes to good music.
A hardcore fan of shoegaze from its earliest days, some of his long-time favorites include Kitchens of Distinction, Catherine Wheel, and Cocteau Twins. He has made many friends with bands he loves due to the exposure he’s provided via The Shoegaze Collective.
Lopez has mastered the art of finding the newest releases from emerging bands as well as older jewels that have yet to be discovered. He regularly debuts music never before heard on the airwaves. If you can ever honestly say you are familiar with every band in a single show, it would mean you spend as much time as he does searching and curating in the vast ocean of the Internet. Submissions always receive serious consideration and are often included in his weekly lineup.
It’s also a truly international show with countries from all over the world represented. Some examples include Sweden, England, Japan, Mexico, Germany, Puerto Rico, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, Ukraine, France, Spain, and Russia to name only a few.
What you will hear is a giant melting pot of music from a wide range of countries and genres all blended in perfect harmony. For true fans of shoegaze and dream pop, it’s an experience not to be missed. Tune in to the next show and find out for yourself.
