In a week that gets us a brilliant new LP from Deafheaven, stunning singles from Animal Ghosts and Bathe Alone (who knew a Madonna cover could be so inviting?), our headliners this week: Pia Fraus (pictured above). Now You Know It Still Feels The Same is unleashed on Bandcamp and other fine vendors on 1 September, and it’s more than a compilation or curiosity. While all the songs were written between 1998-2000, they were (re)recorded in the past year-plus, and it’s an amazing demonstration: youthful exuberance and creative flourishes meet adult mastery of instrument and form. You can’t pigeonhole this as a period piece or a retrospective, you can only celebrate the achievement. We’re also here to cheer on the return of Pale Dīan (dark, moody, epic), plus Virgins, The Day, Starflyer 59 (with a real winner), BrokenTeeth, Devotions, Heathermint, Lasitud (speaking of epic), Snake Eyes, The Line Divides, and the forthcoming debut from TREMOURS. It’s a full weekend to be sure; we’ll do the work, you get to enjoy.

And that’s in addition to last weekend’s fresh sonic injections, including Tennis System, Wednesday, Neon Cathedral, Julie, Blanket, Film School, Bliss Fields, Annie Hamilton, Garage Sale, KRAUS, Astral Brain, CAPITOL, Burning Hearts, Lurve, Firestations, Luka Powell, Gargasi Api, Fehlt, Magic Wands, Pale Shade, Observer, moody beach, Moaning Lisa, Pink Milk, Massage, Say Sue Me, Talking Violet, Spirit System, Whimsical, Silver Liz, Torrey, Supertwin, The Microdance, Starrgazy, Valley Palace, WHYYES, The Starlit Hues and much more. No slack in this weekend.

New Tracks Weekend is launched at 8 pm Eastern, 5 pm Pacific, and continues through Sunday at midnight Eastern, 9 Pacific. It’s the first weekend we’ll spin some of these tracks, and may be the last weekend for some others. Remember, you can listen listen via the station playlist page at DKFM, on Icecast, and on TuneIn Radio for iPhone/Android/Windows. Limited beta: we’re now up on Mixcloud Live, website AND app, if that’s a thing you’d dig. Plus we have our branded apps for Apple’s iOS and Android: listeners can vote on all the new tracks, helping us determine what graduates to permanent rotation. Your voice counts! We’re live-scrobbling once again via Now you’ll know what you heard, or catch up on what you missed. Keep up with our new Facebook group for some real-time discussions of what you’ve heard, and sound off!

And, as always, thanks for listening, and thank you for your support

Krissy Interviews Film School

Krissy VanderWoude got the opportunity to sit down and chat with the cast of Film School (some of them, anyway) about the creative process, tour planning during the COVID era, the addition of new cast members (and much more) for her 18 August 2021 transmission of Drowned in a Sea of Sound. While that interview was pared down to a bite-sized seven minutes, this extended cut provides a much wider […]
