Didn’t seem like we were overbooked this weekend, until we began the painstaking process of sorting and rotation weighting, and wow… we’re well and truly packed. Headliners this weekend include Singapore’s Motifs (pictured above), whose full length debut album fulfills all the promise of their early singles (and puts whipped cream on top), Life on Venus (broadcast premiere on Drowned in a Sea of Sound), Lumari (featured here), and a sneak peek of the long-awaited new album from Startographers. All of those are headlines, but there’s so much more: new music from Hatchie, Narrow Head, T. G. Shand, password:password, and Girl and Her Bad Mood (new label, same great band). Plus we celebrate new sounds from Holy Reptile, Cassettes on Tape, Breaking Fuel, Zed Point, Kodaclips, Swallow the Rat (another sneak peek, this one mixed by Oliver Ackermann of APTBS), Bolywool, FEWS, Spills, Bacillus Anthracis, Sol Marineris, Povod, Saline and more! Plus, we take a peek back at the classics: Skep Wax is reissuing a vinyl-only pressing of the classic LPs from HEAVENLY, starting with their 1991 debut, Heavenly vs Satan. Kind of a big deal, and nice to see this classic C86 creativity celebrated in a new era.

And that’s in addition to last weekend’s fresh sonic injections, including Sphere, Shaki Tavi, Bleach Lab, Cigarettes for Breakfast, Draining, Helens, Mood Bored, Leftwich, Softcult, and Strawberry Generation. Oh but there’s more: My Raining Stars, The Haunted Youth, RIMEL, Emperor of Ice Cream, Lowest Places, Empty Nesters, Venetian Veil, Blood Plastic, I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, Lisasinson and so much more. Let’s do this!

New Tracks Weekend is launched at 8 pm Eastern, 5 pm Pacific, and continues through Sunday at midnight Eastern, 9 Pacific. It’s the first weekend we’ll spin some of these tracks, and may be the last weekend for some others. Remember, you can listen listen via the station playlist page at DKFM, on Icecast, and on TuneIn Radio for iPhone/Android/Windows. Limited beta: we’re now up on Mixcloud Live, website AND app, if that’s a thing you’d dig. Plus we have our branded apps for Apple’s iOS and Android: listeners can vote on all the new tracks, helping us determine what graduates to permanent rotation. Your voice counts! We’re live-scrobbling once again via last.fm. Now you’ll know what you heard, or catch up on what you missed. Keep up with our new Facebook group for some real-time discussions of what you’ve heard, and sound off!

And, as always, thanks for listening, and thank you for your support!

Premiere: Lumari – Neon Mirror

Minneapolis is magical, so long as Lumari remains luminous. And they do. We first got excited about this sonic collective with the release of the "Doors and Corners" single in August of 2021. Hooks and chops abundantly provided, with small surprises around every corner. Strong choruses, a top-notch drummer that propels and provides power fills, guitars that churn and bend... it's a pretty perfect pop package set in swirl and […]
